BIOGRAPHY

Prof.Dr.Yılmaz Büyükerşen was born in 1936 in Eskisehir.

In 1962 he took place among the first graduates of Eskisehir Academy of Economics and Commercial Sciences.

During his student years he worked as a correspondent, writer, cartoonist and editor in various newspapers.

He established the Municipal Theater with the capital he and his fellows obtained by selling their blood to the blood bank.

He became doctor and associate professor in the years 1966 and 1968 respectively. The same year he was appointed as Assistant Academy President.

In 1973 he obtained his professorship title.

In 1976 he was elected as the President of Eskisehir Academy of Economics and Administrative Sciences.

In 1971 he started works concerning inclusion of communication technology in the education system.

In 1973 he prepared the project “Open Education Model for Turkey” in order to extend education.

In 1982 he was appointed as the Rector of Anadolu University by the President of the Republic.

In 1987 he was reappointed to his rectorship duty.

In 1992 he was appointed for the third time. But his duty was terminated due to the provision “rectorship of more than two terms cannot be executed”, that was added to the Higher Education Council Law.

Between the years 1985-1993 he served as the President of the Higher Advisory Council to the Turkish Radio and Television.

After the year 1993 he served as the Director of Communication Sciences Institute at Anadolu University besides his duty as the Head of the Department of Distance Learning.

He served as the President of Turkey Education Volunteers Foundation and established “Education Parks” and “District Education Units” in Turkey.

During his administration in Anadolu University, he established 7 higher education campuses, 3 of them in Eskisehir and the other 4 in Kutahya, Afyon, Bilecik and Bolvadin.
